We invite the next 25 teenage learners to participate in a highly personal learning adventure. They will join our current cohort on a journey to explore new interests, strengths and connections to the world. They will learn skills to prepare for a rapidly changing future through real-life challenges, engagement with expert mentors, and co-created learning experiences. It is a full-time learning program from January 8, 2018 to June 28, 2019.
The Barcelona Learning Innovation Community (BLIC) is a ground-breaking space that offers new learning methodologies, creative environments and innovative technologies to provide young people with a learning model that meets their needs and aspirations.

Learners will typically experience four different activities most days:
|10:00||Socio-emotional workshops - Learning occurs best when the learner experiences a positive and functional relational environment. Each day starts with a focus on self-awareness, personal growth and group cohesion.|
|10:40||Core Skills - Learners need to understand and apply their understanding of core concepts relevant to their topics. This is especially so in literacy and numeracy. A session is created each day to enable learners to acquire, strengthen or 'fill in any gaps' of their core skills.|
|12:30||Genius Hour - Builds the skills relevant to a learner’s passion project. Learners can organize to develop their skills via attending scheduled workshops or work by themselves following a co-created learning plan.|
|13:30||Lunch + Movement||Volunteer or Support||Lunch + Movement|
|14:45||Quest Time - Transdisciplinary projects with an overarching theme. Learners co-create projects in small groups within the larger frame of the quest using their project management skills. A Quest needs to meet established checkpoints as it progresses.||Volunteer or Support||Quest Time|
The final output for learning will always have a creative component, as the learning programs at BLIC aim to strengthen everyone’s creative capacity.
The program focuses on the development of six competencies:
Our learners co-create a personal learning plan in accord with their needs and wants. Every week we visit a variety of workplaces, professionals, and organizations so that our youth team is exposed to many possible opportunities and paths. All learners finish the program with a portfolio that showcases the competencies, skills and projects in which they have worked.
"If, as educators, we are not prepared to initiate significant transformation now, in order to best meet current known contexts, then we have already failed the next generation and those to come."
"I think about how lost I was at their age. I didn’t know myself, I didn’t have any guidance, and I was angry that I was forced to spend all day somewhere I felt my learning and creativity were stifled and where I was not valued. My life changed when a teacher finally reached out to me and became my mentor. What I think we can offer to youth is someone who understands them, someone who they can trust, and someone who wants to support their holistic growth and can guide them as they work towards understanding themselves and their place in the world."
"Our Dream School is the remarkable product of extensive research, inspired professional networking and relentless pursuit of best practices from leading learning organizations and educational experiences worldwide. Barcelona Learning Innovation Community is the epicenter of all this: the proving ground of a new paradigm that empowers young people who are at the center of their learning journey. I cannot think of a more exciting community to be a part of right now!"
for inspired learners in the 2018-2019 Cohort!
